It has become quite annoying to be added to WhatsApp groups that we don’t wish to participate in. However, there is a solution to avoid this situation. Below, we will explain step by step how to prevent being added to WhatsApp groups on Android, iPhone, and the desktop version.
The solution lies in choosing who has the capability to add you to a group. You can select that only your contacts, all contacts except some, or nobody can do so. If you choose that nobody can directly add you to a group, you must select the option “My contacts, except…” and choose all your contacts.
You don’t need to select your contacts one by one as there is an option that allows you to select all of them with just one tap. Usually, this icon can be found in the top right corner of the screen and has a checkmark.
This feature is available both on the mobile version of WhatsApp, either on Android or iPhone, and on the desktop version through WhatsApp Web. However, please note that in the desktop version, it is only possible to activate this feature from WhatsApp Web and not from the desktop application.
In summary, to avoid being added to unwanted groups on WhatsApp, you should follow these steps:
On Android:
1. Open the WhatsApp application
2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner
3. Select “Settings”
4. Tap on “Privacy”
5. Press on “Groups”
6. Choose between “Everyone”, “My contacts”, or “My contacts, except…”
7. Confirm the changes by tapping the checkmark in the bottom right corner
On iPhone:
1. Open the WhatsApp application
2. Select “Settings”
3. Tap on “WhatsApp Settings”
4. Press on “Privacy”
5. Select “Groups”
6. Choose between “Everyone”, “My contacts”, or “My contacts, except…”
On the desktop version:
1. Open WhatsApp Web
2. Tap the three dots at the top of the screen
3. Select “Settings”
4. Press on “Privacy”
5. Click on “Groups”
6. Choose between “Everyone”, “My contacts”, or “My contacts, except…”
It is important to note that although this option prevents you from being directly added to a WhatsApp group, it is still possible to receive invitations. However, these invitations can only be sent every 3 days, so you will not be bombarded with them. Unfortunately, there is no way to block all invitations, only blocking the WhatsApp contact is possible.
