According to leaked documents from the trial against the FTC, Microsoft has plans to release a new Xbox console in 2028. While the company is currently focused on promoting the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, they are already thinking about the next generation of consoles.

Top Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella, CFO Amy Hood, and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, were present at the meeting to discuss the release year, which took place in May 2022. During the meeting, the possibility of exploring a different business model was considered, but it was ultimately decided to launch a traditional console and allow studios access to development kits to create games.

Furthermore, it is likely that the new generation of Xbox consoles will have multiple models available, as the strategy of offering different options at different price points has been successful with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

However, it is important to note that the release year is tentative and subject to change due to different circumstances. Although the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have been on the market for almost three years, their life cycle may be extended beyond the usual due to the pandemic and the need to adapt to new titles.

In another document presented in the same trial, Microsoft also mentions that they are aware of the year in which Sony will launch the PlayStation 6, presumably in 2028.
