Metro Latin America 2018: Latin America’s Urban Transport Leaders Meet in Medellin
Over 150 directors and senior managers from key urban transportation projects all over Latin America will meet in Medellin this June to discuss the development of key urban transportation projects.
Metro Americas works throughout the year with rail and metro operators to support the development of key projects. Each year, the directors of these projects come together to exchange experiences, present project updates and decide upon the technology, strategies and financing options needed to make these vital projects a reality.
Medellin, Colombia - 2018 Host City
After discussions with Latin American operators, it was decided that Medellin would be the perfect option for this year’s event.
Importantly, the city of Medellin has a proven track record of forward thinking urban transport innovation; in recent years the Metro de Medellin has integrated metro, cable car, tram and BRT transport solutions within the Valle de Aburra. In 2013 the city was named the most innovative in the world and this commitment continues. Medellin is now looking to expand the cities rail links to adjoining towns and villages, while also expanding and upgrading urban transport coverage.
Metro de Medellin will be supporting this year’s event, they will deliver a speech on the opening morning before taking directors and technical specialists from all over Latin America on a guided tour of the city’s transport network.
Metro 2018 will be held at the excellent Dann Carlton Hotel on 6-8 June 2018.

2018 International Projects
As always, while Metro Latin America goes in detail on all of the projects under development in the host country, the event provides an excellent chance to learn about the triumphs and challenges from around the continent.
This year is no different, with over 80 international managers and specialists discussing projects including:
Metro de Quito
Senior representatives from the Ecuadorian capitals first Metro line will deliver an update on the project, outline final steps on the initial project and the long-term vision for further expansions.
Metro de Panama
It is an exciting time to meet with representatives from Metro de Panama as the network prepares for the launch of Line 2. This and further upgrades will be discussed in Medellin this year.
Metro de Lima - Line 2
Another exciting and important project under construction is the Line 2 of Metro de Lima. The project is expected to be 33% complete by the end of this year. At Metro 2018 we will get an update on what has been completed and what work still needs to be done on the major expansion.
Argentine Commuter Rail
We are delighted to again welcome Trenes Argentinos de Operaciones to participate in Metro 2018, to discuss upgrades, operations and expansions of the capitals commuter railway network.
Rio de Janeiro - MetroRio and MetroBarra
This year we will have both MetroRio and MetroBarra representatives giving a full review of all of the major developments in the key Brazilian city. In recent events we have heard some of the important steps, some key challenges and it will be great to learn what projects are next in Rio.
Sao Paulo Metro, Metro Salvador and ViaQuatro
