The recently elected mayor of Medellin Federico Gutierrez will outline his vision for the future of urban transport in Colombia’s second city at this year’s Metro LatAm 2016 conference in Medellin on 26-28 April.
In the opening keynote session, Mr. Gutierrez will be joined by Claudia Restrepo, General Manager of Metro de Medellin, and MetroCali as well as senior representatives from the Bogota city government and the Colombian Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU), who will present on plans for the capital’s new metro project.
The event will bring together senior politicians, metro managers and technical specialists from all of Latin America to identify the strategies and technology, that will improve capacity, ridership, passenger experience, whilst also maintaining a safe and reliable service.
Technical sessions will focus on the impact upgrades to signaling, telecommunications, maintenance, rolling stock, track monitoring, passenger information systems and smart ticketing can have on overall metro operations, and senior engineers from each Latin American country will present their experiences.
The event will also feature a technical site visit to the Medellin Metro, one of the most advanced and innovative in Latin America, incorporating metro, cable car and tram systems. The site visit, lead by Metro de Medellin technical specialists, will give attendees a unique insight to the strategies and solutions implemented on the network.
The event will also be supported by some of the most advanced and innovative technology suppliers working in the region, who will share the international experience and specialist knowledge with the senior specialists in attendance.
Metro LatAm will allow the region to understand trends and challenges, and work together to identify the technical solutions necessary to continue the advance of urban transport across the region.
