Santo Domingo Metro To Begin Line 2 Testing Within 6 Months
The Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret) this week announced that Line 2 construction work is nearing completion and network testing is expected to begin within the next 6 months.
Opret deputy director Leonel Carrasco said that a tunnel, which has been constructed as part of the works, has been a particularly complicated undertaking, has now been fully constructed. Focus is now turning to complete the electromechanical phases, installing rail and electrification equipment.
The bridge across the Ozama river, linking the capitals administrative district with the eastern zone, is now 60% complete.
“The bridge’s grandeur, it’s majesty can now be seen. We’re working on the river, which is the most critical part of the two main pylons which will support the bridge”, Carrasco explained.
Opret have said that they have not yet finalized a timescale in regards to the arrival and preparation of the six trains, each with three cars. that will operate the second line. The route has four new stations which are currently under construction.
