CCR have confirmed that Thales will deploy a CBTC Signalling system on lines 1 and 2 of Salvador Metrô, in the Brazilian state of Bahia.
Thales will deploy a Sel Trac CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) solution which supports a fully automated service. The 31 kilometer network will serve nineteen stations in the cities of Salvador and neighbouring Lauro de Freitas. Commisioning is scheduled to take place in the first half of 2017.
The new metro network is part of broader efforts to integrate transport in Bahia, providing direct transport links with Luiz Eduardo Magalhães International Airport.
This is the third CBTC signalling contract Thales have won in Brazil since 2010, following agreements to supply the monorail systems in São Paulo metro and Manaus. Thales also has an agreement in place to provide signalling and communication systems for the tram system in Santos.
