
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Monday wrote a cheque for $600 million to Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro to begin the construction of the first ever metro system in the nation’s capital. The 3km Line 2 tunnel for the Santo Domingo Metro was completed on wednesday, with officials confirming that the project continues on track for an early 2016 completion. Peña noted that project contractors have contributed between $20 million and $25 million towards the project, which will have to be repaid.
